APPO stands for Advanced Pure Plant Oil and is a biofuel derived from pressed oil seeds, such as rapeseed, sunflower, soybean or palm fruit. Because APPO is vegetal, there is a closed carbon cycle. The amount of CO2 from the combustion is absorbed by the plants where APPO is made of. APPO is therefore a CO2-neutral fuel. Additionally APPO barely contains sulfur, which causes the so-called acid rain. APPO made from rapeseed is one of the most “natural” fuels and does not compete with food. It is a crop that in “crop rotation” can be grown with very little or no fertilizer, as Danish studies show. It is a complementary fuel, a “clean” and “renewable” replacement for diesel fuel.
